Because...
Lincoln is small enough for one TeamMate to make a big difference.
Consider Carol and Beth. At 27, Beth celebrated six years as a TeamMates mentor. It’s because of a trust she built with her mentor,
“I was beginning to fall in with the wrong crowd. I felt like, ‘Wow. Why would Carol want to spend time with me?’ I was so introverted. My body was in fight or flight, just trying to survive at home. It took many meetings to bring me out of that hole.”
As time passed, Beth worried Carol would leave, as many other adults had. If Beth ended it first, maybe it wouldn’t hurt so much. She asked to quit TeamMates. Her school contact urged Beth to keep going.
“I'm so glad I didn't give in to learned behaviors,” Beth says,“I was this uncertain, quiet girl. My priorities were scattered, my grades weren't the best. I saw her care and how much time she put in. I mattered.”
Because of their shared trust and commitment,
“Now I have goals,” Beth says. “My husband and I have been married for nine years this year. We have a home of our own, and kids. I'm in school for nursing. I never pictured the life I'm living today.”
